Post by dancemoox »

Tonight 17 very brave comrades faced the onslaught of enemy tanks at close range, tackled Pirates in armour and died in the streets of Corazol.

Missions tonight were:
  • Crash Site - Podagorsk Edition
  • Raid on Corazol - Special Edition
  • Random Engagements - United Sahrani Edition
  • No Pardon
  • Hail Mary

    Afterparty
  • CHazarLo
  • Outpost Bean
I hope you all enjoyed the missions as much as I did, I leave you with this video from We Were Soldiers. Those that lived long enough to get inside the bunker in Hail Mary may have heard me utter the words "Broken Arrow" to SuperÜ.

Lastly don't forget next week is the V+ i44 extravaganza. We're kicking off same time as ever, Pr3sario will be posting the required preset tomorrow once his shell shock settles down.

Crash Site - Alpha 1 Rifleman. We moved off from the LZ and soon heard the enemy helo nearby. We heard enemy infantry talking nearby and moved behind them to take out half of a fireteam. We continued to move, taking about as much as we gave before myself and danny died in sight of the crash site.

Raid on Corazol - Alpha 2 AAR.With brave leader Presario, we moved through the hills before deciding that we'd have a better line of site if we were on the top of the hills. The enemy could see us and we were wiped out.

Random Engagements - Alpha 1 AT. After a bit of a map marker issue, we hastily reorganized and put the new plan into motion. The fireteam was caught quite off guard by a couple of enemies extremely close to us and our FTL and one other were killed. I got the attacker and spotted some enemies who had circled behind us as i found cover. They wounded me with a rifle grenade. A look around confirmed that everyone else was dead so I rolled back onto my stomach and crawled on. Somebody stepped out in front of me and we both emptied our weapons at eachother. He died and I was killed by his friend.

No Pardon - Assistant MMG. After a late start, I caught up just before we attacked the first town. We couldn't see much from our position but didn't really have a better option. We rejoined the main force near the road to the airfield. A BRDM decided to come see what was up so we decided to gift him with plenty of lead. Brave comrade Dvl was volunteered to go take a look. He hopped in and attempted to drive it back to our lines. His fireteams AT got a little trigger happy and sent a rocket to make things right. Dvl hopped out and went on his merry way. Our MMG team moved up to join the other fireteam to fire at targets in the compound and on the airfield. We take great pains to avoid shooting anywhere near the tank. After some particularly enthusiastic fire from the pirates, I look over to find my MMG dead. I pick up his weapon and resume the steady stream of fire. After clearing the airfield we were soon stalled on the top of a hill and wiped out.

No Pardon - Alpha 1 AT
After a... questionable helicopter ride in to shore, we touched down in the "highly suggested" LZ. Almost immediately, we began making contact with enemy soldiers, and we engaged. And engaged. And engaged. If there was one thing we were not wanting for in this mission, it was enemies. I doubt we went for more than a minute without taking fire or responding (with copious amounts of fire) during the course of the mission (truly, it's better to give than to receive). Despite our CAS abruptly deciding "close air support" meant "ram nose-first into ground," and some dubious friendly fire while inspecting an enemy vehicle, the push actually went fairly well as we cleared pirates from village, base, and airfield alike. Things got a little hairy when I discovered I was the only remaining AT asset able to engage the T-34 doing laps on the tarmac, but our streak of luck held until after we'd finished clearing the airfield, and had eliminated the enemy commander. We then pushed onto a heavily wooded hill, and things began to get nasty. What started out as heavy contact to our West quickly turned into an overwhelming tide of enemies from all sides as we worked through the last of our dwindling ammo supplies. Alpha 1's luck finally ran out, and we took multiple casualties in a span of seconds. Although we were able to get the wounded back on their feet, any hope of escape was crushed by an AI that wandered into the heart of our fireteam amongst the smoke and trees, who promptly opened fire. The few remaining survivors were picked off one by one, until only dvl was left, and the mission called.

I had a lot of fun with this one; despite a few technical problems with the mission, and the constant, paranoia-inducing tension of having enemies everywhere (Hell, probably because of it).

Hail Mary
Three fireteams, a handful of CAS units, and a whoooooole lot of enemies. What could go wrong?

A lot. Although moox's cry of "Broken Arrow!" as he bled on the bunker floor is easily one of my favorite moments yet.

CHazarLo - VUVUZELA SQUAD
Satire, Spitnam, Homercleese, and I had the bright idea of packing all together in a single car and racing off to the station. If memory serves, Satire was behind the wheel, as we urged him to "go faster" and to "channel your inner Paul Walker". Well, Satire must've caught the attention of a particularly fast and furious spirit guide, because we abruptly crashed into a building alongside the road. We hopped out of a car, bemused at our coincidental misfortune. ARMA works in mysterious ways however, and like an ancient prophecy being fulfilled, the car exploded, incapacitating all of us, save Satire. As he set about patching us up, death proved once again that you cannot escape its mark, and the car exploded again, and Satire joined us in our rhythmic writhings on the cold, hard ground.

Outpost Bean
Much silliness. Don't tell me to do bad things, I'll do them.

First of, let me say that this was my second V+ session. I really enjoyed it, as it seems that coms are much clearer which makes things more enjoyable. I will be joining as often as I can. :D ( I do hope this has positive reaction, I was the reason for several friendly fires....)

Crash Site
I took up Blufor Alpha 1 FTL position with Lazer, Dvl and Zenzos under my "command". After planning our pilot realized that his collective stick broke of, so I volunteered to fly that tub of an Mi-8. Draakon doing a coms check, after which we realized that I somehow joined command element (Oh Arma you and your scroll menu thingy...)
Anyway we marched from our LZ into a forest doing some scouting here, some there and... BOOM! I got killed by Opfor who apperantly had us in their sights for some time...

Raid on Corazol

I don't remember anything, except for dying....

Random Engagements

FTL'ing Blufor Alpha 1 since Danny's connection ran out of juice, had to restart the server as we couldn't deploy. So before we deployed we had a master-plan worked out.....On GLOBAL! :suicide:
Since Opfor had the dignity to tell us, we scrambled up a new plan, which kinda worked out. Or not. We scouted the whole compound, only to find out Opfor had stormed our MMG's position (which we didn't change), It reminded me kinda of "Saving private Ryan". So when we approached enemy lines our SL gave us weapons free, not a second to early, still babbeling "A1 copies" I saw a moving bush... had I not left my trusty rifle on semi, the whole thing would have been different.

No Pardon

Easily the best mission I played that evening, and one of the best I enjoyed with Folk ARPS.
I hopped in AT position for Alpha 2 under Lazer, which I felt was quite a good choice. As we landed on the "secure" beachhead, our Helo came under attack by some heavy MG. We moved into the Forest toward our first objective, calling out contact reports and taking pot-shots at the enemy swarming A1. We asked the Wildcat for some CAS to take out a Technical, but oh boy, they weren't even scared. So Lazer directet Spitnam to open up with his AR and that did the trick. Shortly after, Lazer got shot, Spitnam took over.
Moving into town Draakon joined our squad. On our way to the next encampment, we encountered an BRDM. As it did not move DVL got promoted to check it out.
Being the AT, and everybody being a bit jumpy about "don't send your AT" and stuff I prepared my Launcher.... and then it happend! In the darkness I saw a body fall and everybody goes "Oooh!!"... so I pulled the trigger. I felt bad. In fact I dropped my now useless AT as I felt so bad. Lucky Dvl got out alive!
I recall Spitnam saying to me: We all make mistakes, just none as grave as this one! :bang: I should be executed :commissar:

Bounding into the next camp, We had our second friendly fire incident, with command reminding us to spare our bullets for the enemy. Spitnam and I managed to get some sweet CQB'ing on the last house (mainly him saving my life)...
We moved on to the Airfield where a Tank (T-34?) waited for us. no problem though since A1 still had AT... :P
Clearing out the Airfield, Draakon hopped into a AA-Gun and shot 'em pirates to pieces!
By now I was in command of A2, since Spitnam got killed near the Airfield (I swear, no friendly fire this time!). We moved onto a ridge to our next objective, But got swarmed by some pissed of pirates for killing their leade, before we could reach high ground. Desperatly trying to save my Comrades I got shot myself and it was over.
I recall Draakon asking for "Permission to withdraw! This is death hill!" but command element was already taken out.... one by one, A2 got killed with Dvl being the last to die.

On a side note Dvl has to get a medal, or two. You seem to have developed the habit of not dying.

*Edit:
Hail Marry...
It was the very definiton of Broken Arrow. Again Spitnam and I tried to face hordes of angry mobs... when I got shot to bits, crawling while leaving a blood trail behind me, I realized Sptinam was dead. The only save place being in the middle bunker, where some Comrades huddled together, while bullets whizzed by and the screaching of tank tracks not far of, we slowly exceptet the fact that we where all going to die...

It was pure tragedy.

Random Engagements - Opfor A1 AT

Well, thanks to a spectacular intelligence failure, the enemy MMG teleported right in front of us. Lazer and Pr3sario were pinned down on the roff so I took the rear exit (hehe) and went off to see if I could find what was shooting at us. Sure enough, nestled amongst the rocks was something man-shaped and I bagged a MMG moox to kick things off.

After a bit of waiting we decided to displace to a nearby industrial shed in the hopes of flanking any flankers. Sadly the enemy had the same idea and I came face to face with my American counterpart. Fortunately, his Bourgeoisie M-16 comes set to semi automatic for efficiency savings while my Glorious Kalashnikov comes set to dispense fully automatic Socialism right out of the box. End result, he dies, I'm only wounded. Sadly his buddy finishes me off before I can spread the glorious revolution any further.

No Pardon - CO

I enjoyed this a lot, and I think it was one of my better command outings. Most of us stayed alive for a good while and I still got to shoot things :D

I made sure to send the Wildcat to make sure our LZ was safe, just incase it wasn't. The mission maker being on board was purely a co-incidence. We made it down mostly in one piece, only to push up into the the woods of prone enemies and being to take casualties. One FTL went down causing a comms issue that made me think things were worse than they really were. At some point the Wildcat decided to interpret my orders of making careful attacks on targets of opportunity as "plough head-first into the ground in a huge ball of flames", leaving us bereft of the big gun and our FAC with nothing left to do. Sorry Draakon, you did a great job with the target marking, we'll make sure to hire qualified pilots next time.

The attack on Strelka went well, and we cleared out the town without much incident. Pleanty of incident followed on the way to the next camp however...

Well, the plan was to send up a guy from A2 to see if the sleepy looking BRDM was usable or not, so brave Dvl went up to check it out. I'm not going to go over the story again, but lest say it didn't go as planned and Dvl deserves some kind of medal for bravery.

The first camp and airfield went similarly well, one or two people got shot, but we took the objectives and blew the camp 1 cache. I did notice by this point that we'd been in game for an hour, so checked with command to see if they wanted us to soldier on or evac on the An-2 and call it for tea and biscuits. "Take camp 2 and Hold" they said. It's almost as if they knew there was a counterattack due or something...

Anyway, halfway between the airfield and the second camp, on the peak of what is now to be known as death hill, we all got shot to pieces by a variety of enemies, including one audacious pirate who just walked into our midst before starting shooting.

I'd say I did ok. Got a bit sloppy at the end when I really shouldn't have, and still need to work on speed though, but otherwise good. And a great mission too.

Hail Mary - A1 AR

Nothing like a bit of Grunt work to relax after command, although relax might not be the best word here.

A1's sector was the Western tip that would inevitable be attacked from two directions at once. After getting shot up whilst strung out for a while, we were ordered back to the centre point just in time to watch the A-10's bring the fireworks. I got to shoot a few guys and pull a crispy dancemoox out of a burning humvee and got killed shortly after. This should be awesome with a regular session sized group, can't wait for Sunday!

CHazarLo - Vuvuzela Lead

We were fast, the explosion was furious.

Outpost Bean: Town Hall Defence 1 - AAR of some description.

The plan was to defend the town hall, so me and Homer took the sensible porch and Fluffeh and Spitnam took the roof. Went about as well as expected. Not much to report other than it turn out that a wounded man can't crawl off of roof and live. Oh, and I went a bit zombie at the end and could run around despite being wounded.

Outpost Bean: The Ballad of the Big Manly Arms - AAR of some description.

"Now now, this is a safe space for people who identify as Snipers, we'll go somewhere else"

The Ballad of the Big Many Arms is a story to echo through the ages. Unfortunately it will have to be told later because;

1) The video still needs doing
2) I'm off to a real pub now

Like any good pub we ended up in the beer garden. And like any good pub we ended up staying there a LOT longer than intended.

We were heading to our waypoint and heard helicopter sounds straight ahead. Then we started tracking voices and found ourselves behind you at about 50 meters. I'm actually surprised that we didn't win.
