[Sun] 20 November

Missions:
  • Cratesistance
  • Huzzah
  • Nightblind
  • Finale SE
Like smack addicts attempting to go (temporarily) 'clean' long enough to attend an interview with the authorities, the comrades tore themselves away from Skyrim for tonight's Folk session. And even if they couldn't stop talking about elves and guilds and costume accessories, around 20 of them fought bravely for a socialist agrarian utopia. Of course, they failed pretty much utterly; but it was a glorious type of failure. And that's what we like. Particular congratulations to comrade Darktatka for his debut in command: an attempt at Finale featuring a neat new plan. BTW, did you know the next version of ACE2 is going to feature dragons?

Finale SE
My first command. Nice. After coming to Folk just few sessions ago I had your lives at my disposal. You laid them down well.

The objective - hold the bridge in the middle of nowhere.

The plan was pretty simple - Sprint hard for forward positions, fire into enemys side from cover in the village, then fallback over the river and hold the line. Secondary (untold) plan was to lure tanks into the city and let MAT team take care of them. BMP was positioned somewhere between and was to pepper the enemy infantry.

We had MAT, BMP and 3 infantry squads. On Fers Advice I had Charlie mount the SPG9 (which I didnt know what was, but apparently some kind of electric canopener) and had Alpha and MAT take forward positions over the river in village. Bravo was positioned a bit nearer to the bridge and was to cover their eventual retreat. It went rather well, there was MUCH more enemy tank than I expected and we lost SPG9 and BMP pretty early. It turned out that I dont read maps very well and I didnt notice elevation - from what I gather Alpha and MAT team did not have a clear line of fire into the flanks due to some little hill or something.

Because AI took most of the beating, the tanks stopped on the bridge and first wave was pretty much obliterated by our AT fire. Charlie and BMP bought it, and we were without the SPG9. I was hanging back, having the rank and file do the dirty work, but my services were eventualy needed - I sauntered to SPG9 and began reviving some smurf. And then I CTDed. Or LSDed. Couldnt tell with all those smurfs around.

From what I can tell the enemy pushed through just after that with 3 or so tanks.

Good: There was no infantry trying to cross the bridge. Good job Alpha, Charlie was pretty much clear to just fire rocket after rocket.
Bad: Should have positioned BMP further back or into the city. Should have asked everyone if they have clear line of fire.

Cratesistance - Geurilla Commander.

I am not very good at commanding missions, but this went quite well.

The idea was to let the two sqauds I had at my disposal go to a cache, and then let them freely roam. I thought that we would probably get attacked from two places at once, so I send the sqauds to the caches which were more or less closest to us at first (Although I changed one of them after objections from the crew). Then, I told Bravo to figure out for themselves how they would defend the eastern side of the caches, telling them to roam freely, whilst I took my own forces south.

During the taking the forces south, fer asked me to go to that higher point in front of us. I agreed, and then I spotted an enemy squad. although I failed to relay the position properly to Harlander and Ian, who were, as a result, not able to see the squad at all. Therefore, I went into a battle with only half my actual strength, which in hindsight is a bad idea. Since the original idea was to flank the attackers whilst they were too busy fighting the defenders at the cache, I could have just waited. The attackers were too pre-occupied with the defenders to pay attention to us.

I first thought that only one squad was attacking, so I did not call for help immeaditely, but instead, just let my squad engage. I ordered Harlander and Ian to flank from the left, but when Fer was wounded, and when I noticed that we were defintely dealing with more then one squad, I ordered them to flank right instead, to save fer, and ordered bravo down to flank from the east (my left). The cache was blown at that point, probably an act of despair.

Then I died. The scoreboard told me that I killed four guys. I should try and relay the enemy's position better next time.

Unfortunately, Fer bled out whilst Harlander was helping him out. The remainder of the CDF squad (3 people, two of them appeared to be wounded), retreated to the east. Since Bravo squad was coming in from the east, I hoped that the CDF would all be shot. Unfortunately, the appeared to walk more or less straight past each other, with Bravo prowling trough the woodwork, whilst the CDF took the road.

Luckily, the CDF then went kamikaze. So we won.
