This was the first time I had played ArmA in bloody ages, and I had an absolute blast. Cheers!

UNnecessary Violence
I was the AT rifleman in Charlie 2 for this, and spent most of my time just trying to be a "Good soldier", as Batman would put it. I stuck with the team, kept a reasonable interval, covered my sector and walked off a roof and needed medical attention, all in all, textbook. Also I didn't shoot anyone. I did however manage to stop a bullet from a rooftop sniper as we were approaching the mosque.

Red Snow
Why change a winning formula? I was Charlie 2's AT rifleman again, but this time, I got a few kills, including my first ever hit with an AT weapon! Go me!
I did get wounded quite a few times however, and I was too slow to save myself from the enemy who popped up from 2 meters away behind a fence, though I did take the bastard with me.
This mission was tons of fun.

Crateresistance
Charlie again, on the independents side. I didn't do a huge amount, I was watching the direction the attack didn't come from, so when the violencing started it took me some time to get into firing position. Shot off a few rounds at some fleeing guys though, and patched up one of my squadmates.
This was the point that bed was calling me.

Cheers again for the games, I can't wait to go again!

I had to disembark after a single mission given a prior time commitment, so short AAR. Still, my technical issues seem buried at this juncture, so that's good. The 'workshop' before this session deserves a nod for its ridiculous fratricide and server-straining carnage.

UNnecessary Violence
Bravo 2: Mamuto (FTL), Joe (AR), Delcake (AAR), Cuddlefish (AT)

A long mission, that actually went quite smoothly for Bravo for the most part. We were engaged in skirmishes across some fields and from tree-lines during the approach to Zargabad, in which Mamuto was wounded but no other casualties were taken. As we proceeded into the outlying compounds things started to heat up a bit, but between the building-cover, support of Bronegruppa elements and Variable + Mamuto's leadership we took no casualties, even when enemy vehicles were spotted nearly on top of us. After scoring a few infantry kills I was called to deal with a parked BRDM, only to misidentify what was either a rock, a market stall or a tent as a vehicle silhouette and put a PG-V right into it, doing absolutely nothing to my target 50+ meters away from the blast zone. Luckily, the expected volley of return fire never came, the vehicle operators being rather oblivious or perhaps not even present. I did get a clean hit on the second shot, though, so that was good. At that point I was very much glad for spending some time practicing the RPG-7 during the mayhem at the Explosives Range prior to the match. At about this point Joe had to disconnect, leaving us as a three man element - and as we approached the mosque, Mamuto was killed outright by fire from an enemy fortification. That left Bravo 2 as me and Delcake, who as I recall was on his first game with us [Hope you enjoyed it, and plan to come back soon!], leading me into my first state of fire-team (more like buddy pair!) command. I fumbled my way through it, but between Variable's guidance and the fact that we were primarily advancing through the wake of destruction left by other units I didn't manage to get either of us killed. I don't think we had a single enemy contact once we hit the mosque proper, aside from some harassing fire that caused us to reconsider covering the mosque courtyard from atop the walls. End of the day, both of us were still alive; so I suppose I could have done worse in terms of first leadership adventures. It'll be interesting to see how much of the population surge is retained next week.

Logged Kills: 9 personnel, 1 BRDM, 1 Unidentified Terrain Feature

This was the first time I'd played with you guys (and Arma 2 multiplayer tbh) - I'd decided to join up as a random newbie.

UNnecessary Violence

I was the AR in Delta 2, initially we were kinda moving from place to place just missing the action - which wasn't a bad thing as it gave me time to familiarize myself with everything (took a while to get used to the - at times simultaneous - comms-chatter on both TS and in Von) I also managed to take a few shots at the general direction of the enemy and getting myself wounded.

As we moved into the city we took position behind a fortified position to repel some incoming technicals, which we never saw, but a friendly tank got hit by an SPG and not long after that an SPG hit just below the sandbags where we were, so we pulled back to the road, had another team merge with us and then we charged onward to find glory and action. Then I died while crossing a road.

Also, turns out I killed an enemy trooper! Not quite sure when I did, but I think it was the target ( by "target" I mean "general direction I was pointing my gun at") that was a fair distance away behind a tree line.

Red Snow

This time I was packing AT in Charlie 3, and at one point that was all had ammo for, (thanks to the medic who donated some ammo!) I had fun dragging wounded into cover like a baws and discovering the importance of cover. Towards the end we were holed up in the lumber yard and as we crossed to the other side towards the docks with the AA we got hit pretty badly. I got shot, was dragged into cover, healed, got shot immediately, was dragged into cover, healed, and then the game was called.

Once again I had killed an enemy trooper! Though I haven't a clue where or when.

Crateresistance

This was going to be the last map for me as it was getting a little late.

I was a rifleman in Alpha fireteam, we got mauled in the woods and I died.

Overall, it was an awesome evening spent pew-pewing! Thanks to those that organized the session. I'm looking forward to joining future sessions, where I hopefully I will have a better idea of where and when I've killed something.

Wheeeow! That was a lotta people.

Alpha 2 : audiox (FTL) Sylver (AR) IceRaiser (AAR) daf (AT)
What i learned this mission was that if you give a man a chicken, he will make jokes about it until you reach Chicken Street. (Which is, coincidentally, right next to the blue mosque in Zargabad. Honestly!)
Our little team had plenty of time to work out how best to fry said chicken and formulate a good business plan to run all Chicken Street's in Zargabad out of business. Our new Zargabad-wide fried chicken chain is now responsible for 3/5 of the UN's yearly budget. (Most of which is funneled to select Party members via your standard array of UN development-programmes in our self-sufficient socialist utopias.

Anyway, Alpha seemed to have a quiet time under the lead of Wafflynumber. Luckily, my fireteam made up for it with loads off laffs.
Our shootout with a treeline was pretty intense, but luckily, this was one of those times that a) a1/2/3 remembered to pop smoke like crazy b) we actually withdrew when ordered to.

Once we made it to Chicken Street some people from a nearby gas station, who may have been roused by the wonderful smell of chicken, (or that we fired three RPG-rounds at them and still missed...), started shooting at us just as the rest of you guys were busy posing for the camera. Needless to say, there will be no discounts for UN personnel at our new Chicken-chain after this little incident.

Red Snow
Bravo 1 : audiox (FTL/AAR) DarkTatka (AR) Variable (AAR/FTL) Dan (AT)
Apparently i forgot to bribe certain members of the Party's R&D-staff and was left without a Teleporter at the beginning of this mission. Not the best of times, but me and Variable made a switch, and since the CIA is cleared for pretty much everything, he got a functioning teleporter.
We linked up with the rest of Bravo, made it through a village, and then i was shot in the face.

Oh, and the Workshop was rock solid. Unfortunately, the firing range turned out not to be.

I haven't seen numbers this high since the joint OP back in September. Awesome.

UNnecessary Violence
Bravo 2 Fire Team Leader

Just like last week, I vowed once again to not have any of my fireteam die. Eerily enough, the same exact thing happened as the first mission last Sunday: one guy had to disconnect and I got headshotted from god knows where while the last two guys (+AI) lived through to the end. Overall, a very lengthy mission but with limited causalities which is good, I suppose. My most memorable moment was yelling at everyone to back the hell up as an enemy APC was rumbling towards us. Cuddle decided to do some terraforming with an RPG, which I found humorous. I ended up with in sight of the mosque and was trading shots with the AI posted outside whilst waiting for the rest of the platoon to move up when I ate a bullet to the head.

Bravo 2 Fire Team Leader

I'm so sorry Bravo 2... I tried to smoke in order to cover a wounded mate, but the smoke turned into a fragmentation grenade. Which I ran towards and got instantly swiss cheesed. :siiigh: Spent the rest of the mission flying around as a crow watching squads run into ambushes. Fun times.

Some day Folk ARPS will pull off 100%'ing this mission. Some day. But not the day Mamuto decides to eat shrapnel for breakfast.

Crateresistance
Bravo Fire Team Leader (Attacking)

We walked directly into an ambush and got slaughtered. I managed to kill the guy who shot Ferrard but by then the enemy was on our south flank and we died. What went wrong:
We maneuvered without fire. That is lethal. We had no base of fire and no fireteam bounding. We basically blindly charged into enemy territory and paid the price. We also were all bunched up in a 50 meter area. What we could have done better: Played slower, for one. Spread out, get a base of fire, have a fireteam move in sight of the other fireteams. The terrain was also really really bad for assaulting into. Next time!

Internecine
Bravo FTL
We attacked from the most open area possible so this was doomed from the start. When we got pinned down, I got Bravo to move back and to the north to attack from a different angle; I also asked Alpha/Charlie to disengage and try a southern approach but by then we were just outnumbered and were picked apart. Bravo made it to the village though! I got shot by Danny being clever and leaning over the edge of the rooftop next to me, props to that. Misho avenged my death but not before he fragged his own teammate :commissar:

Overall a fun, if a bit stressful, night. See y'all next week!

But to see the organisation work out is quite impressive (as always with the Folk sessions).

One thing I felt, is that the missions lacked in number of enemy AI's The advance to Zargabad was a bit too easy for my taste.

Apologies - haven't had time to write up my AAR yet, but have posted a quick-and-dirty gallery of the stills I took during UNnecessary Violence (JO Edition):

Overall it looked well organized, there were a bit of goofing around from other players but other than that it felt really immersive running to the first base in a large group.

Here are few pics I managed to take before dying. If you have more screenshots feel free to send them to me at kenworts@gmail.com

p.s. my fps was also low, slowly dropped from 40 to 30 to 20... guess we were getting closer to zargabad

Sorry for the delay!

UNnecessary Violence
GONG2 driver with Halop as my gunner/commander

As the driver I couldn't see much, but we spent the first half or so of the mission jockeying around for a good position on any enemies while staying behind . Halop eventually disconnected and I drove around doing not much. Ended up hiding in yarum for a while, till Ivan and Rich came and crewed up the other two slots and we mad our way into Zagrabad. Didn't have very many targets in zargrabad and we just provided security mostly, but still good times.

Red Snow
Charlie Squad lead.

Gotta say Ben did a great job as medic. We needed him a few times and he kept being exactly where we needed him without me having to micromanage him. As to the rest of charlie they did a wonderful job moving when I told them to move and finding good positions on their own. As squad lead I hate having to baby sit and micromanage the teams but with them I really didn't have to, it was great. We had a deputy commander leading us (Charlie) and delta, but he bit the bullet which put me in charge of both squads. We pushed up to our first objective, a shilka, and managed to hit it once with an RPG which was enough to decrew it, then had delta drop a satchel on it as they moved to us and finished taking it out. It was relatively light contact until we pushed up a bit past the shilka then we found ourselves getting shot at much more. Got pretty close to our next objective till command ordered us to peel off and assist alpha/bravo who where under heave fire. Unfortunately we where a bit slow to move there, and took a few casualties when we began to really get going. I was one of those casualties, when I ran up to get Ben.
From my understanding most of Charlie/Delta didn't survive the trip to save Alpha/Bravo.

Cratesistance
Deputy Commander, attacking side. In charge of (I think) Delta, Echo, and a two man Fox team.

After convincing montag (medic) we should go with the team I was commanding, we loading in the truck and headed out for a short drive. The plan was my squad would attack one cache, 1st squad would attack the other cache, then we would pincer in on the middle one. Well we quickly and quietly took out our assigned cache then got into position to attack the middle one. Fer heard some voices in the woods so I sent one of the other About this time 1st platoon was getting chewed up at their cache. Our CO called out to just attack the middle cache by ourselves then come back them up. It was now that my boss called me into work, causing me to get a bit careless and get shot trying to drag someone behind cover.

After this I had to head off to work and missed the rest of it, but over all it was a great session. All three groups, and the new folks did a great job meshing well without creating sub groups. That was something I was afraid would happen but luckily everything was nice and mixed.
