[Fri] 10 May 2013 [V+] (Hostages gone wild)

Post by Cam »

Missions:
  • Oily Recommended (Fallujah)
  • HOSTages (Cindercity)
  • The Valley (Sahrani)
  • Random Engagements (Podagorsk)
  • Chologorsk (Podagorsk)
An excellent playercount tonight, with 21 comrades turning up to enjoy our showcase of terrible failures and surprising successes. Apologies to all affected by the strange bug on Radiology causing a crash, I still don't understand the root cause, but it was fairly irritating for all parties.

Feel free to post an AAR and general comment on the session below, and thanks to you all for coming along and (hopefully) having a good time.

Oily Recommended - B2 Pilot

We did a perfect landing, SL decided to run of alone on a street and get shot somehow, leading bravo in some odd regroup , lets sit in a tight circle and wait for grenades.

While alpha did the mission.

HOSTages - Opfor(Indfor?) Engineer

Just plonked down a tripflare and ran off and shoot whoever those guys were that tried landing on the roof.

proceeded to murder some guys that made it inside ,but blufor were already running for the helos with the hostages.

killed one of them before getting wounded, they managed to take off.

The Valley - BSL

*ahem* I started the mission well, by entering the wrong chopper  - to be honest, after sorting out my radio, I just ran to the nearest one. Alpha were due to land first and "secure" the LZ before Bravo landed. However, soon as we landed we lost our Bravo Squad Leader and the Bravo 1 FTL had issues getting the 148 radio to work. So I inherited command of Bravo - this wasted a lot of time and Bravo was way behind schedule once I had got us all "organised" (ie. "just head to Bravo objective marker, quickly!")

We approached the office block in time to witness one of the hostages walk slowly off the roof of the building to his death - darn, if only Bravo had reached the objective sooner! ;) Anyway, we moved to the first floor to secure, waited a few minutes of silence from command and then was ordered to return back to the LZ - we (Bravo) decied to take a nearby truck but left behind to CO after ignoring his cries for us to wait for him  We drove about 5ft before the mission ended automatically anyway - One little mission issue - I would have preferred the mission to end when all of BLUFOR have been extracted and back at base/start rather than a condition of all OPFOR killed or hostages secure (but still in AO). Half the fun is escaping a hostile area alive :)

BLUFOR: Alpha 2 Fire Team Leader (+Helo pilot)

This was a quick and fun mission. We were ordered to all fly into the compound and land with 3 little birds. Each piloted by a member of each fire-team. I took a pilot role as a lot of people were discussing not being happy flying. Shortly after take off, one of the lead helos stopped to a hover as I was flying behind it! :argh: I just missed hitting him by performing a sharp left bank and then clipped a tree taking minimal damage - all this must have filled the pants of my passengers with brown ooze. I decided to leave my helo with its rotor/engine running for quick extract and for noise cover when breaching the building. The other helo engines were powered down.

One of my team got injured on the North-east doorway, it took ages to heal him by this time the hostages were rescued and on the way to my helo as it was still spinning. I got inside the helo as pilot and waited for my team, but they got gunned down from the roof as they ran towards the helo, so I took off and quickly got out of there - the mission ended early again once we were at a safe distance :(

I was hoping to land at the start point (at the very least) or perhaps return to rescue any team mates that were still alive - I didn't know the final situation, any MIA/KIA people, which was a bit of a disappointment to a successful, quick mission.

The Valley
INDFOR: Bravo 2 Fire Team Leader
-- Dabbo
-- Zergra
-- Daf

Started the mission with Daf being mute - he just ran off the get a vehicle without responding - later on I realised his volume was very low and I couldn't hear him. When we were all at the vehicles, there was a slight bit of confusion on who was in what vehicle before we started to set off back to the main road.

The same roadblock from the last time we played this, FUBAR'd the convoy again, except I was expecting this. I think we lost Zergra as he stayed in the SUV as the gunner. Me and Daf headed towards to beach as I knew some contacts from last time used this to flank my position. I think I needed medical attention about 3-4 times.

Not sure how I feel about this mission, either the player numbers are too small to succeed, our tactics are flawed or the enemy is too strong - both times I have played this mission, we always die at the road block/beach.

Random Engagements
OPFOR: Alpha 2 Fire Team Member
-- Guus
-- AntlerOwl
-- Head
-- Dabbo

The plan was to protect a town hall and wait for BluFor to approach and kill them. Me and AntlerOwl were positioned in a Pub to the South-West of the town. We heard some voices as we waited, but saw no contacts ourselves. We heard contact reports to the North-East, so me and AntlerOwl decided to flank them, monitor their approach and gun them in the back at the right moment :)

I followed AntlerOwl's lead, he was like a ninja, running through the town, spotted the enemy, reporting their position, and leading us to the rear of their position where we proceeded to gun down about 4-5 of them from behind (about 50 meters away) :coolbert:

The mission was deemed successful, shortly after this engagement.

Chologorsk
INDFOR: Alpha 1 Fire Team Member
-- daf
-- Kalelovil
-- Draith
-- Dabbo

We jumped into our cars, drove down the roads and got shot at as we approached the compound. I jumped out and we re-grouped near a wall. I saw a couple of police officers on the roof, shooting towards us - I tried to shoot them with my pistol from about 200m away, nothing, not a hit registered (I hate pistols). I got hit but no one was able to heal me :( So I got Kalelovil to put a merciful bullet to my head.

A really great fun session, perhaps some different maps if possible? - I may have a go at creating some missions that specialise on lower player counts.

Oh, the workshop lead by Rawrnix was brilliant, unfortunately I missed half of it due to technical issues but I managed to get my ACRE mod working just in time. I was hoping to record it for a good reference, training video. Maybe next time :)
