Another superb turnout tonight, with 57 comrades taking up arms in service of the Party and our glorious struggle for a socialist agrarian utopia! We also had a great turnout for the workshop before the session, eventually fielding the equivalent of a squad for some work with lanes, vehicles and an impromptu insurgent attack. The main session ran comfortably past the 3-hour mark, with 45 comrades sticking around for mission #4 (we were still over 30 when starting Outpost Bean). This is superb - and on behalf of all the hosts, I'd like to thank everyone for coming, and also for the great comms discipline during slotting and briefings.

INDFOR comprehensively out-smarted, out-maneuvered and eventually slaughtered OPFOR in opening adversarial, Internecine II. I was part of the OPFOR force that was first pinned by INDFOR base-of-fire element from an elevated position, then hand-grenaded to death by its companion maneuver element. Really, really well done! The adversarial spirit continued, as we took 57 comrades into a round of GooseChase. As ever, we'll have to wait until others post their AARs to understand what the hell happened, but as OPFOR ASL I can tell you that it was the first time I'd attempted to defend the castle at Zub. Still have no idea how the second wave of BLUFOR troops made it into our perimeter, but perhaps we were all distracted by the circling helos. Next up, we slotted practically every last role in Finale XL, chalking up our first comprehensive victory. It was epic, but of course now we'll need to write a new mission in which everyone is supposed to die! Crash Site marked a return to more adversarial excitement (it was impossible to resist, given our superb playercount), during which all sorts of frantic helicopter shenanigans took place and comrade Bodge murderised a whole fireteam of enemies in the woods. Since comrade Ferrard is still being held by negotiators (and we don't negotiate with terrorists), we honoured his memory and rolled straight into his classic mission, Outpost Bean. And murderised it. Many of the platoon making it to safety in boats, although I couldn't save the tractor. Finally, we endured comrade SuperU's pre-parachute nerves to tumble out of a C-130 and use strange, HS/LD AK-copies in comrade Housemaster's vintage classic, Czech Mate. The fireteam I was in killed the enemy officer, and comrades Kale and Iceraiser drove a captured vehicle to the extraction point. Whereupon it exploded in a fireball.

:clint:

As ever, please post your thoughts, feedback, screenshots and video here - comrade YouTube Hero SuperU's FA doesn't just produce our video idents, but provides leadership and guidance to propaganda artists; more guidance on video editing for Folk ARPS is provided by comrade Ferrard Carson. Posts in the AAR threads really helps us (the hosts and mission makers), both with understanding how we can improve the experiences, and showing potential comrades what our sessions are like.

:v:

SPECIAL NOTE
The one area where the Party would really appreciate more help is the slotting of leadership roles. Too often, there's a horribly long silence when the host calls for COs, SLs and FTLs ... or the same faces (many of them hosts) taking such roles. If you're afraid of failure, don't be - getting everyone killed is totally fine. Plus, we run weekly workshops where you can learn the skills required to march comrades into machinegun fire. If you're capable of leading - but simply can't be bothered - please try and take such a role in at least one mission per session; if that's the only way you contribute to FA, that would still be greatly valued by the Party.

PS
This is what comrade Headspace and I were making references to in Finale XL (and why you'll nearly always see UN IFVs with the 'gong' callsign in our missions):

Internecine II

As Alpha FTL lead, we spent a merry time hiding, and not really doing anything. Tacticks!

GooseChase

As Hostage 1, I decided on making my captor's life as bothersome as possible. This involved climbing the top of the tower I was on, and waving at the chopper, asking for overly specific directions, and occasionally swearing loudly for no reason. Also, calling my captors names. In the end, when ordered out, BLUFOR popped a rifle grenade through the door, and vaporized the poor ex-SAS hostage.

Finale XL

As Gong-1 driver, totally not getting the reference, I drove around a bit, aiding Mamba in his awesome shootings. Once blown up, naturally, we flopped out of our burning coffin like useless fish, and were healed by platoon commander! Whereupon I was murdered by a tank. :E

Crash Site

As BLUFOR Bravo Action SL, we made a brave assault on the C130. The bravery peaked when, under information from Alpha, an OPFOR soldier was under the wing of the C-130 opposite from me, I charged over, and plugged him with reckless disregard. This tapered out, when an OPFOR hiding behind a house made a charge forward, and didn't see me hanging around on the stairs. Blam blam!

Then Iceraiser called me a good SL. Yay!

Outpost Bean

As Brave platoon lead, we won! We actually won this. I did not expect that ever.

Czech Mate

A technical opened up on me. :E

Not directed towards you per se as I tend to see this behaviour quite often in Goose Chase. For some reason taking the hostage slot brings out the comedian in people. I find this (gamey) non-serious attitude tends to make the mission very annoying for Opfor. "Stay alive and don't be a dick. Act like a hostage would." is what it says in the hostage briefing.

I'm open for suggestions as how to change this but I'd appreciate if people would just consider that a hostage slot is as interesting as most others but more of a "fun-enabler" for the 50-odd other players, to make the mission a bit more interesting and dynamic. If I wanted irratic and irrational hostage behaviour I could just make them AI-only.

Yet another awsome session, but where did the canadians go? :psyduck: Even a stubborn friend of mine (CrazySKB) couldnt resist the battlefield after he had announced that he would not be able to return to Arma 2 after playing the Arma 3 Alpha. The force is strong with this one :D

To the AAR

Internecine II
OPFOR AR
Simple plan, shoot and flank. Sadly the shooting part got shot upon and deleted off the map before any flanking could be done. Then the flankers got flanked and a bullet found a way into my face.
Not much to say, it was a short mission but a good warmup for what was to come.

GooseChase
OPFOR Bravo 1 AR
Something with hostages and a marathon. Starting with Antlerowl as my FTL we ran, ran and enjoyed some nature (Also tried to have a inspirational shout but that one fell to the ground) After some more running we ended up in the outskirts of a friendly village and set down in the forrest, awaiting the arrival of a helicopter than never came. The plan changed as a convoy had been spotted moving towards our village, quickly we set up firing positions in the town and the Blurfor soldiers fell right into it. A short firefight emerged and the only report was antlerowls missing legs wich I put back on shortly after. We where ordered to fall back into a barn with bravo 2 covering out retreat, but it was cut short because of the hostage attempting to flee in a car. He was disciplined quite a bit wich led to mission end, everyone lost.

Finale XL
Kilo AAR
Some coop up in here. The plan was to sit tight in a compound that was placed just about 250 metres from front of the enemy assault. As we made our way there the fighting errupted. Gong was knocked out rather quick wich left us without armored support, we did have a lot of RPG´s however. I found myself a small window in a shack that was placed in the outter walls and awaited the order to open fire. Once it came I saw movement just outside the compound in the hedges and opened fire. I shot a bunch and eventually hit two EI moving around in the bushes. After some confusion on retreat or not (might have been the weeds) we advanced towards the HQ of our enemies. Kilo took the scenic route and set up in a compound on the flank. Once again we shot a bunch of rounds into the hedges because of enemy movement on our other elements, and it seems that they didnt last long against so much fire. The HQ fell quickly and we where victorious, I didnt see any enemy tanks or APC´s and just a few EI but it was fun to watch out AR with his huge M60 fall off a roof.

Crash Site
OPFOR Bravo 2 AAR
The mission started with everyone running to the choppers and me getting shot before entering it. You owe me a drink or three for blowing my legs off, whoever you are  I was patched back up and we made our way to the landingzone. We discovered a lonely rear gunner staring into the distance, who didnt repond to our calls, until it turned out to be our CO Bodge :siiigh:
After a rough landing (nightmares) we made our way down the hill in the search for that crashed plane. We spotted a enemy helicopter dropping off troops and we opened fire on it. While we where busy bravo 1 took losses and theyr wounded where loitering the battlefield. I randomly found one of them laying in the tall grass and patched him back up. We continued on the ridge and sighted the plane, in an attempt to walk around it I saw 3 figures on the other hillside just waiting for us to walk into the open. I called them out but I couldnt read the bearings properly. Soon they opened fire and we returned it. Dancemoox was hit and but managed to crawl behind my tree before a really well aimed M203 grenade hit us. I died and somehow moox continued to crawl around, he has a really big will to live.

That grenade marked the end for me as I had to go to work but I enjoyed it. Thanks also to Iceracer and Fer for helping Crazy out with his mess of a game. (We danes do not take responsibility for his game iceracer :P )
As for the missing leaders I will be able to step up my game as a FTL on tuesday if I get around to joining that session. I have seen some newer faces already starting to feel comfortable in such positions wich is great!
If it continues to make a problem it would be great with a "only new leaders" game with an easier map so that we get more people into those positions and so they feel more "warm" being there. If it fails horribly then we can always take them behind the shed and :commissar:

Mojo out.

Internecine II
CO
The plan was to be pro-active and not give the attackers any peace. Alpha was positioned on the Eastern perimeter with Bravo overwatching them, Charlie were watching SE and the Eastern approach. Delta were to watch South and South West. Echo were holding to watch the North and North West ready to support MMG who were in position to the NW in overwatch. Soon we were getting reports of vehicle noise South of us so I gave Charlie freedom to investigate, giving MMG orders to suppress the enemy to allow Charlie to move into a better position to assault the enemy. Contact reports indicated about 2 fire teams around an oil derrick and charlie moved in to take them out. MMG were ordered to move out and find a new spot but moments later they were engaged on the hill at close quarters so I mobilised Echo and moved bravo in to support bringing Alpha and Delta closer to the centre of the town. Charlie had finished their previous engagement and moved North to join us. Echo, Bravo and CO/Medic were returning fire with contacts on the ridge, but I was concerned that we hadn't seen all of the enemy infantry yet so had Alpha and Delta continue to hold positions keeping our other flanks secure. With significant fire being exchanged between the town and ridge Charlie squad were in an ideal position to tip the mission balance in our favour by moving further North bringing them right onto the rear/flank of the engaged infantry. They did their job admirably and more effectively than I had imagined as the mission ended shortly after with about half of our force not really seeing much of the action.

GooseChase
Guard 2
I wandered around with Lord Penny a lot, he seemed to have some kind of personal problem as he had to keep popping into bushes and such. We discussed the local flora, sweaters, pens, confectionery and biscuits on our lovely journey. He even offered me a very kind proposal of a transfer to Blufor but unfortunately I had to reply with copious Bizon rounds into the rear of his car as he tried to speed away. Turns out you can damage things with a Bizon, who knew?

Finale XL
DC
Shabaz Element held firm and ignored alpha through Fox's cries of agony until we unleashed a world of pain onto the advancing enemy, the tanks fell rather quickly and soon JKL were moving south on the HQ and GHI were sweeping the broken enemy force to make sure all was dead. It wrapped up rather quicker than I had anticipated but not before i managed to get a good close look at Daf's grenade outside the enemy HQ.

Crash Site
OpFor CO
My plan was to get infantry in position early to move on the crash site hopefully pinning the Blufor into the crashsite itself. Unfortunately many things conspired to stop this from happening, our chopper hit the deck a bit hard, then my computer crashed, then after restart TS3 crashed, then I got back in finding out that Ice had a very similar plan for Blufor and my guys were heavily engaged from land and air. I could see one of my squads getting pinned by fire from a forest to the South so decided to see if i could go and lift some of the pressure. I found an enemy Fire Team putting sustained fire from the hillside within the forest so made a move to their Eastern flank and pushed slightly upslope of them. Thankfully they were firing AKs too so my first shot wasn't heard when I tried to time it along with their AR's firing. One of their guys moved to heal so I took out another guy who was still mobile and then the reviver before spotting another member of the team trying to work out where the fire was coming from, a couple of rounds took care of him and I finished off the remaining wounded. I realised time was running out so legged it towards the crash site but the mission ended.

Outpost Bean
Alpha SL
We were protecting the Hotel and the Pub, we know our priorities. I hid behind a counter for the most part before leading a very short charge South into automatic fire.

Czech Mate
Alpha FTL
I crashed again, got shot, got healed, healed someone, got shot, got healed, healed someone and then died.

I have some footage from the Workshop, Finale and onwards.
I'll see if I can get something neat out of it <later>.

Workshop
Fireteam bounding drills, Mounting/Dismounting a Humvee, bounding with .50 as support and repelling some random AI attacking the training camp. (Don't they know it's Sunday?)
Workshop peeps

Internecine II
Bravo(?) FTL: Cam
Soldiers: Xenu, Blastvader, IceRaiser

We defended the South/Eastern part of town.
Some stray bullets that missed MMG/Charlie hit my building. That's all the fun we had.
Pic of the map half-way in

GooseChase
Party-Elected CO: :jihad:
The Plan was that Alpha would grab one hostage and head to the western vehicle depo, then drive NW and (depending on BluFor resistance) at Rogovo either go South or North.
Bravo would move east, heading SouthEast to trick BluFor to think that they were heading for the Pusta depo but break off and go to Staroye instead.
MMG would take the only pickup and head North, in an attempt to trick the helicopters to follow that red dot on their radar(didn't work :().

Alpha moved quickly, took shelter in the castle and had a helicopter land just east of them.
I stole one of Fer's(Alpha) troops and headed to the Depo to bring the vehicles up closer, so Alpha could bound West and take off with the Hostage.
Sadly, BluFor thought it'd be great to go 4th of July with 'nades and the hostage got blown to bits.
Alpha was told to make a last stand and "Attack is the best defense". :hist101:

Bravo, however, was taking it slow and sending out B1 to link up with MMG at their depo to secure it while the rest of Bravo moved in.
For some reason the Hostage thought it'd be good to jump in the driver's seat in front of his guard and attempt to drive off :suicide:
Good thing though, 'cuz now we know that a Bizon CAN actually damage something!

(I'm calling this an OpFor victory)

Finale XL
“Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?”
-Juliet FTL: Fer
AR: IceRaiser
AAR: Terminal_Boy
AT: Wilson

We moved down south to the compounds and awaited the "Go" for our flanking manouver.
Guus thought being a Medic was a bit boring so he tried to upseat the tanks by shooting at them with his AK. Didn't work though
After the Go, Juliet, Kilo and Lima went south.
While Lima was covering our advance we started to take some RPK fire. After a quick duck, roll and Gatorade I spotted the guy. Standing up. In the middle of a field. Right in front of Lima. I shot him and tried to get a reply from Fer.
Wilson broke the news for me. Fer was gone.
“Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodnight till it be morrow.”
After some looting and getting Kilo up on CC we were ordered to charge the enemy HQ.
I tossed Fer on my shoulders and carried him to battle, crying "He's not dead yet!".
We won.

Crash Site
Bodge took OpFor CO, so ofc. I have to ruin his fun!
BluFor CO: IceRaiser
My glouriouz SL's: Dannysaysnoo and Toppometer.

Plan was to land Bravo on the west edge of the circle and move in through the woods along the south side of the road, while Alpha would land to the east unless I found a better LZ for them.
The mission went off to a great start as I told Alpha's helicopter to take off before Alpha were all in, forcing him to turn back and then troubleshooting for half a minute or so while the forgotten lamb was trying to get in(He didn't get the action menu or something).

Bravo made it to their LZ as an enemy helo flew past, I stayed in TH2 with Pilot Awaitz as his gunner and chased it away.
We found some enemies in the woods and shot at them.

Alpha made it to their LZ and as soon as they touched down they came under fire :psyduck:
They managed to break off south but half of alpha was lost, but Toppo did not loose hope.
He shot some guy that was complaining about "lack of manpower" and they moved in to a BOF towards the wreck. Toppo :commissar: Random Player
Bravo managed to move a FT to the wreck and start looting it while awaitz circled around and I shot at trees. And men under the trees.
Alpha did a great job at shooting enemies that tried to hide behind smoke but in the end they got flanked from the SouthEast. Clever Bodge, Clever.
Bravo was told to move South from the wreck while Awaitz would land on the road and once Dannysaysnoo was inside with the loot we were gonna take off, leaving the minimum wage-peeps on the ground. :clint:
Mission got called as Awaitz came in to land. Totally our victory!
Hey look, I got 3 kills :D

Outpost Bean
Alpha SL: Bodge
Alpha Medic: IceRaiser

We took to the hotel!
Bodge managed to aquire the front desk for himself while Bravo and the rest of Alpha got hammered at the Pub. err and outside.
After some deliberation(and Bodge's death) we decided to make a break for the boats.
I stopped to help some fallen comrades, by licking the jam off their clothes, and I heard Waffly saying he was about to take off.
"I'm in a boat! You have two minutes, then I'm gone!"
"-Waffly nooo! I'm coming! WAAAAAIT"
I got on the boat and started shouting: DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE!
Antler chimed in: Leave them behind, JUST GO!
While Toppo/Dogface?(srsly are you brothers or what?) shouted: Don't leave us! Come back, you bastards!

We didn't :D

Czech Mate
MAT Gunner: CrazySKB
MAT AG: IceRaiser
We got dropped half a click outside the dropzone and hightailed it back.
Shot some dudes, got shot, tried meeting up... God, this was a clusterfudge! Death all around!

Luck was smiling on us though, as Kale came swooping in on a stolen UAZ, Koala affixed to the front and angelwings on his back, picked us up and took us away from the danger that is life...

I missed the First Mission so no Internecine II for me.

GooseChase - Feel Free to Kneecap
-Bravo SL

We were tasked to move south east of our starting position to draw BluFor towards Pusta before changing course and grabbing the vehicles at a cache further north. Sent Antler’s FT directly to our the cache so he could get set up and ambush any Helicopter attempting to land in the vicinity whilst Willem and his FT provided support to Bodge’s hostage guarding/wrangling.

As Antler, now augmented with MMG, set up around and reported no hostiles all hell kicked off at both Alphas position and Pusta. Thinking that they had taken the bait, the hostage FT and yours truly cheesed it towards the northern cache only to catch a glimpse of two vehicles sitting on a trail in the forest. Turns out the sneaky underhanded BluFor had jacked our transport from Pusta which, as Ice put it, “we were still paying off!”. :argh:

They didn’t spot us (like how?) and drove off towards Antler and Xenu’s teams at the cache. Antler and Xenu managed to set up a hasty ambush in the village next to the Cache catching BluFor unaware. We were buzzed by Tiger in his Blackhawk for a while as Xenu shot at him, then the hostage’s car exploded and mission ended…
:siiigh:

Maybe it’s time to have a script preventing hostages from taking the driver’s seat of a vehicle?

Finale XL - Fer will always be my Juliet
-CO of “You Glorious Bastards™ ”
-DC Bodge

After an awkward silence I took the CO slot (it’s better to volunteer for glory than be volunteered for it, right?). The plan was a simple L-shaped ambush with two Squads and an SPG on the axis of the enemy advance, Bodge leading two more Squads with MAT on their flank and an IFV for support.

The enemy was on us almost immediately after the mission was kicked, with our teams only giving fire once the tanks had engaged us. They came on in the same old way and we defeated them in the same old way, up until Alpha and Delta had run out of rockitz (innit?) and became reliant on Bodge’s force for dealing with the armor.

After the fire from the armored column died down, I asked Bodge’s group to move on the enemy HQ and attempted to rally the remnants of Alpha, “Death” and the knocked out IFV . Unfortunately comms didn't get through and some in this northern group started to engage Bodge’s team green who decided to shoot back with a tank they commandeered (but didn't tell us about).

I died in that exchange of fire, but watched from the afterlife as the remaining Glorious Bastards™ cleared the rest of the OpFor guarding the HQ (except the one that ran away).

Crash Site -Staph…Seriously
-BluFor Alpha SL

I took Alpha which, in true sleep deprived fashion, I called Bravo for the first couple of minutes. Our glorious and beloved leader Ice tasked with securing the eastern side of the target. After a tearful reunion with Tiger the mission kicked and I got my FT’s onto our chopper. Imagine my surprise when said chopper took off in front of me forcing me to call it back…
:siiigh:

After a “ firm” landing my FT’s decanted to another chopper helpfully parked nearby. With all but one of our guys aboard (sorry Bones!) we proceeded to the LZ, knowing that we would be well behind OpFor.

Sure enough, OpFor were waiting and opened up on us as soon as we landed. With Alpha 1 gutted and Alpha 2 a little beaten up we legged it into the forest to regroup, lick our wounds and plot our revenge.

Moving up into the treeline Tiger spotted a great location with large fields of fire over the crash site. So we set up to rain hot lead death™ down upon those who had so cheekily ambushed our LZ. We didn’t have to wait long and proceeded to fire on OpFor when they appeared on the edges of the crash site. Taking another couple of casualties we paid back in kind blunting OpFor’s push on the wreckage, as Danny’s Alpha got into position to seize the data.

Once the data was in Danny’s possession, and seeing his smoke, we gave everything we had to keep OpFor off them as Ice sorted the extract.
Unfortunately Bodge was able to sneak up on us from the South East, letting me get a warning off just before he incapped and killed the rest of Bravo…

Outpost Bean – Come back you bastards…
-Alpha 3 - AAR

We guarded a hotel, then a pub and shoot lots of guys called “Frost” before the inevitable chaotic withdrawal.

Internecine II - Indi Charlie Rifleman

We moved well beyond or staging marker where we were to defend, thankfully since the wall and rocks the map alluded to were the smallest rocks ever created and would have made for a poor grave. We moved up to where two of the enemy fireteams had gathered to stage and let rip with a few grenades killing all but one of the enemy. We lost one man clearing the oil drill to the sneaky remaining enemy. A quick turnaround to retake the MMG position and the mission was over.

GooseChase - Alpha Medic

Once inside the castle keep I made myself useful by blocking the down stairs to the hostage and generally taking abuse from him about my frankly glorious mustache. I may have had to ignore the Hippocratic oath a few times to keep you off the stairs Dannysaysnoo, but I was a good Dr Mercury and patched you up after you stood in the window and got shot by Bluefor. Sadly not even my online medical diploma could save you from the friendly fire that blew you into the stairs and beyond my reach. I was all ready to storm outside and kill the Bluefor right outside the keep when the mission ended, I'll get you next time greyeric!

Finale XL - Delta AR

I didn't live long for this one, I found a nice wall to hide next to and cleared my throat to sing the glorious songs of my peoples. I managed just 100 rounds before the tank HMG fire started hitting inches in front of my position, reloading and attempting to crawl back behind the wall as fast as I could did nothing to prevent my body pink misting when the tank cannon round blew me up. I was the third to die and got to watch the SPG-9 finally get set up and then the horrible friendly fire incident..

Crash Site - Opfor Bravo 2 AR

Bit of a hard landing but I was able to walk afterwards so that's an improvement on previous landings I've had playing with you guys. Memorable moments include being in the perfect position to drench an enemy transport heli with fire as it dropped off it's passengers. Second memorable moment seeing what I assume were the reminants of the heli across the valley, calling the contact and then getting shot a lot. I managed to crawl away a little and get patched up by Daf and as soon as my insides were back on the inside I was killed.

Outpost Bean - Bravo 1 AAR

Nothing much happened to the south at least to begin with, took a few stray rounds from the north and patched up Fer when he went down. Nearly had my ears blown out by JSRS when the convoy blew and that's the excuse I'm using for getting wounded moving south towards the boats. Once patched up I took up rearguard until it was time to run. Greyeric made it to another boat, myself and Nitarm made it to a boat and Fer was left on the dock doing something to a tractor, quite what it was I'll never know..

Czech Mate - Charlie AAR

Charlie landed roughly where we should have and regrouped without much of an issue. Did a bit of spotting as we waited to move in towards the compound then did fire and maneuver as practiced in the workshop. Made it without incident up to the compound wall. Heard we'd lost the CO and that the General had been killed. Some confusion then happened resulting in our fireteam nearly killing the medic (who drove at us in a commandeered UAZ, in a threatening manner I might add) finally I apparently got shot by a sneaky EI that had crawled under the wall I was taking cover behind.

Another great session, my third Sunday. I'm happy to take on FTL next week for a mission or two, so apologies in advance for getting everyone killed!
ramming speed!

Embarassment, panic and lack of PTT on my joystick made for a less-than-slick first outing for me as pilot. I'll get more hours on the Mi17 too for next time.

With regards the reluctance towards taking leadership roles, I'd recommend taking on FTL even as a relative beginner. Sure, you'll confuse your comms, spend half the mission talking on global and not be quite sure that you're on the right staging mark. But you'll also bring your whole fireteam home in a boat, be the last FT standing in an oil depot (albeit one surrounded by EI), and you'll score a few AT kills once you figure out how to assemble the SPG. It's a load of fun, don't be shy.
