Welcome to the frontlines comrade! This is the brainchild of long nights at work and the desire to add certain consequences to your everyday FA sessions.
(OP)eration (R)ed (H)ammer is a dynamic, storydriven COOP campaign that takes place in a partially fictional, late Cold War period in the Arma 2 universe.
In the campaign you will be playing as russians who have gone to war with Chernarussia, but the CDF are not the weak and outnumbered forces from Arma 2. They wield an impressive army that has been preparing for your arrival.
If this sounds interresting, keep on reading through the general information. If not, then please follow these two fine men outside.
Still here? Awsome! The following sections will explain the rules and give you general information about things that will appear in this thread.
***********Readme***************
1. - General
The basic idea of OPRH is to play a mission about 2 times (3 for a tiebreaker) and add together if it has been won or lost. Any vital material such as heavy tanks and equipment will be lost in combat aswell.
So dont go charging with your T-90 tank through AT rockets. For now, OPRH missions will have it clearly specified in the mission description.
If a mission kills your entire platoon before leaving the starting point, it can be edited to make it alteast a little bit fair.
Before each mission will be put on the server there will be a small forum briefing and a map showing the general goal that is to be achieved.
Missions will be sized to fit a regular F2 session of about 30 mins wich may vary ofcourse.
2. - Combat
The overall design of the missions will be centered around frontline combat.
Soldier duties will include but are not limited to:
Platoon size combat and movements
Supply line protection/assault
Base protection/assault
Convoys protection/assault
Patrol duty
3. - Loosing equipment
Most missions in OPRH will include some sort of high value objects. If you loose it, it will not be avaible for the next mission in the series.
This includes but is not limited to:
IFV and Heavy tanks
Mobile PLTHQ vehicles
Ambulances
Attack Helicopters
This does NOT include:
Transport Trucks
Jeeps (Armed and Unarmed)
Transport Helicopters
Supporting Infantry (MMG, HMG, ST etc.)
So keep in mind what vehicles you want to do glorious charges in, the next CO could maybe use that equipment that you lost.
-Forum related info-
1 - Tactical Map (TM)
The tactical map is used to gain a overview on current unit status and troop movement of the entire area. Friendly units are Blue whilst enemy units are red.
The map will always be displayed in the post below the story and will be updated and replaced as the campaign goes on.
2 - Battle map (BM)
The BM will be shown for each upcoming mission showing the overall movement plan of troops. It will be crude, but gives a good idea of what will be coming up.
3 - Storytelling
A big part of the OPRH experience is the story. The storytelling will be going on here on the forums and will be told from different angles (News reports and such)
After each battle has been fought, the thread will be updated with a new section of story for you to read about our brave soldiers.
4 - Notes
I would quite like to point out that I am not the only person that has had an idea like this. Our very own Ferrard Carson has made a dynamic, storydriven Adversarial campaign called "The Morning War" viewtopic.php?f=31&t=516, Go check that out aswell!
Any spelling mistakes that might kill you with OCD or GN syndroms are not my responsibility. Mistakes happen!

Alright comrade, you are now ready to take the bullets to the enemy and not your head. Make us proud!

Prologue
Events leading to the invasion of chernarus
We are in the Cold War era,the iron curtain is holding the world in its chains and the soviet union is slowly falling into pieces.
Several smaller countries have fallen off the warsaw pact and are now acting as independent states that are mostly western friendly.
One of these states is chernarus (Black Russia) wich went independent a year ago. The new goverment and populance is completely western friendly wich makes it a archilles heel for the russians.
During the year, russian officials have attemptet to get chernarussia back into the pact but was denied completely by the goverment.
The reason for the importance of chernarus is that it could possibly open up a large beachhead for the western NATO countries to invade south russia wich would run around the iron curtain and all heavy fortifications pointing west.
Russian leaders want to plug the gap in the iron curtain as the western bloc clearly has theyr eyes on this part of the line but is waiting for the right moment to strike.
Apart of the occuring crysis between East and West, russia also has send forces into afghanistan to support the new communist goverment PDPA wich is meeting heavy resistance by the mujihadeen. USA is believed to support them with training and weapons, however russia does not see any reason to assist further.
Important events
1979 - Chernarus disconnects from the warsaw pact.
PDPA President is assasinated in a coup, new leader gets elected.
New PDPA President is murdered by Spetsnaz, causing the country fall into pieces as rebels emerge.
Russia sends a peacekeeping army to afghanistan.
1980 - Chernarus becomes increasingly western friendly, NATO Aid begins to arrive.
Russias peacekeeping army takes control of vital oilfields, providing russia with large amounts of extra oil.
US boycotts the summer olympics in moscow, making no significant impact.
NATO Hercules crashes in south russia, killing a local cow.
The border between russia and chernarus is fortified.
1981 - Russia makes a final attempt to bring chernarus back into the pact. Chernarus denies this.
US airplanes engage libyan fighters in the gulf of sidra.
A drunk submarine captain runs aground in sweden.
Official evidence of US weaponry found in afghanistan.
1982 - The Falklands War begins with all international attention towards it.
Russian Military officials warn the goverment about the possibilities of a simular conflict from chernarus.
The Falklands war ends with a british victory.
Russia gives chernarus another chance in the warsaw pact, Chernarus denies again.
Vodka consumption begins to rise in the goverment halls.
Russia calls together its high leaders to come up with plans against chernarus.
1983 - A russian border patrol, accidently crosses the border and gets fired upon by CDF. 5 CDF and 3 russians die.
Soviet spy gets arrested in New York
Russian forces are quickly mobilized as the country prepares for war against chernarus.
