Yup. The original plan was one helo in at a time, flying in from OP Yankee to the south, touchdown at LZ Oscar, lift out north, RTB, return to RP Zulu just in case. As one lifts out, the next rolls in from OP yankee. That would have skipped all the LZ ops fun and helos wouldn't have been waiting on the ground being shot at and grenaded.
That plan, however, depended on the CO not being shot in the head before the extract...

So that very last member of B2 who got left behind was actually in that half dead state which we rarely see. You're able to move and shoot, but can't access your scroll wheel menu, and thus cannot board a helicopter.
Also, if you're going to be shooting over or near friendlies in a different squad, it's very useful to alert them. Otherwise they're going to think that you're shooting at them.
